Hi all in my role at the MCG one of worse experiences I had in relation to emergency management is when I had to lock the gates on nearly 2000 people. The stadium was at capacity before the game started and I made the decision to stop members, who were entering on general admission tickets, from coming into the stadium. This resulted in a large number of very unhappy people outside the venue. What I learned from this was the importance of the ECO structure and communications. Staff saw the CEO at the entrance where the issue was and presumed because he was there he was in control of the situation. This was not the case as he was just observing the scene. Because of this assumption staff were not passing on relevant information to the control centre and this delayed the decision-making process. It was an extremely stressful event but I know I am more prepared and confident for future emergency events. Lisa Price
